  I actually did not get the same feeling as the other person. I went to St. Mary's once and even though it was not Liturgy and only few people were there, everyone made it a point to speak with me. I was not living in the area but was searching at thr time. Now I have moved back to northern VA and am Orthoodx, and I am contemplating going to St. Mary's regularly. It is a medium size church, with parishoners being young children and professionals, as well as college students or grads, and a few elderly. A well mixed group that is kind and generous with everyone.

  I have been investigating the mysteries of Orthodoxy, and decided to attend St. Mary Orthodox Church because their website says the service is in English, that they are a diverse and downright friendly bunch, and that one of their focuses is on evangelism. I enjoyed the service; however, I did not enjoy getting the stinkeye from parishioners, or the way no one would talk to me, and how even the priest avoided me. I cannot learn to be orthodox on my own; it is a communal affair. St. Mary Orthodox Church does not appear to be the place for inquirers.

  St. Mary's is a wonderful, smaller church community filled with people of all ages and a lot of young families. The priest gives excellent sermons and the choir is very prayerful. There are a lot of ways to get involved and make many new friends. I encourage everyone to come and see!
